Le Balzac is a three-screen cinema on Rue Balzac in the 8th arrondissement. According to its own history, it opened in 1935 with an art deco hall and a large round auditorium, and showed American films in their original version. Two smaller rooms were added in 1975, and in 1993 the three rooms were rebuilt and a bar and exhibition space were set up in the entrance hall. Today its programme combines current films with events and screenings for young audiences.
The rooms differ a lot in size: Salle 1 has 380 seats, Salle 2 has 144 and Salle 3 has 58. The cinema states that its rooms and entrance hall are not accessible to people with reduced mobility. All three rooms have individual induction loops for hearing-aid users, and SME subtitles are available on some films; contact the cinema for details. The history page tells the story of the building.
On its own programme, Le Balzac marks many screenings VOST, an original-version label that does not by itself mean English audio. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
