La Géode is a dome cinema run by Pathé in the Parc de la Villette, in the 19th arrondissement, opposite the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie. The building, designed by Adrien Fainsilber, opened in 1985: a mirrored sphere 36 metres across, made of 6,433 polished stainless steel triangles. Inside is a single room with tilted seats under a hemispherical screen.
The screen is used in two ways. Dôme sessions fill the whole dome with a 180-degree projection, for documentaries made in that format, while IMAX sessions show films in native IMAX format on part of the dome, with IMAX Laser projection and IMAX 6.0 sound. Pathé labels its sessions VF or VOST, and neither label by itself means English audio. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
For public transport, Pathé lists Porte de la Villette on metro line 7 and tram T3b, Rosa Parks on RER E, and bus lines 71, 139, 150 and 152. Pathé says the room is accessible to people with reduced mobility and that a lift is available. Children under three are not admitted, and luggage and bulky items such as large backpacks, scooters, bikes and pushchairs are not allowed in the room. The La Géode site describes the building and its screen.
