The Cinéma des Cinéastes is a three-screen art-house cinema on avenue de Clichy in the 17th arrondissement. It is run by L'ARP, the society of film authors, directors and producers, which renovated the building and reopened it as the Cinéma des Cinéastes in 1996. The site has a long history: in the 19th century it was the cabaret of Père Lathuille, which inspired a Manet painting of 1879, and it became a cinema in the 1930s. The programme takes in European and world cinema, with festivals, retrospectives, previews, documentary and short film programmes, and special evenings.
The largest room, Salle 1, named after Étienne-Jules Marey, has 314 seats; Salle 2 has 93 and Salle 3 has 71. The cinema lists all three rooms as accessible to visitors with reduced mobility and offers a headset for audio description to visually impaired visitors. Le Bistrot des Cinéastes, a bar and restaurant, is on the first floor. The cinema lists Place de Clichy station, on metro lines 2 and 13.
On its own site the cinema marks films VO or VF. Neither label by itself means English audio, and the programme includes French films and films in other languages. Our listings here are for English-audio screenings.
