Together

If you're into love stories that take a seriously weird turn, Together might just be your next favorite movie night pick. Directed by Michael Shanks in his debut feature, this 2025 supernatural body horror flick stars real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Tim and Millie, a couple whose move to the countryside sets off a chain of bizarre and grotesque events that test the limits of their relationship—and their bodies.
What starts as a romantic attempt to reconnect in a quiet rural town quickly spirals into something much darker. After a mysterious encounter in a cave, Tim and Millie begin experiencing disturbing physical transformations that literally bring them closer together in ways no couple ever expects. Think emotional intimacy meets body horror, with a healthy dose of existential dread and some seriously gnarly special effects.
The film leans hard into its genre roots, with plenty of unsettling visuals and a creeping sense of dread. But what sets Together apart is the emotional core at its center. Franco and Brie bring a raw, believable chemistry to their roles, which makes the horror elements hit even harder. The fact that they’re married in real life adds an extra layer of authenticity to their performances, and critics have taken notice—Together has earned a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was praised for being both emotionally resonant and memorably grotesque.
That said, this movie isn’t for everyone. If you’re squeamish or not a fan of body horror, you might want to sit this one out. The film doesn’t shy away from showing the physical consequences of its supernatural premise, and some scenes are downright stomach-churning. But for fans of genre-bending horror with a strong emotional backbone, it’s a unique and compelling ride.
The film also features a haunting score by Cornel Wilczek, which evolves alongside the characters’ transformation, and includes tracks like the Spice Girls’ “2 Become 1” that add a twisted sense of irony to the proceedings.
Together is a bold, bizarre, and surprisingly heartfelt film that explores love, loss, and the terrifying idea of becoming one—literally. If you're into horror with heart (and a strong stomach), this one's worth checking out.
